The Timeless Project is a really interesting deck of cards and set of routines from the good folk at RSVP magic. As such, the production values are high, and I love the graphics and the non-frenetic music!

The deck itself is a thing of beauty – an elegant back design based on the internal workings of a clock – nicely printed by the USPCC. The court cards all feature a clock face – each showing a different time. And this forms the basis of any number of effects with a time theme. With the DVD a second deck is supplied which has been set up in a special way to make several strong effects possible.

The DVD supplied contains 5 routines. Here’s a quick run through them.

The Timeless Clock
A lovely bringing together of a couple of principles you will already know to make a nice routine which is easy to do and has a strong emotional hook for your spectator too. Mind reading and a prediction which gets away from the pick a card idea. I really like this and Gary Jones explains everything very clearly as ever.

Time Warp
The time on printed on a freely selected court card physically changes and another card changes completely in this multi-phase routine. A little bit ‘movey’ though not overly difficult. This nicely utilises some additional special cards that come with the Timeless Deck.

Just a Second
The time on a freely selected card changes to match the time on a wrist watch on which the spectator has randomly set the time. A nice effect – with a clear plot and impressive magic. This isn’t technically demanding, but as with all magic will need some handling practise to make it smooth.

Dual Time
A spectator freely chooses a time. One card is found to be reversed in a deck of cards and then the corresponding card is reversed in a Timeless deck and the time on this card matches the original freely chosen time. Harder to explain than perform! You will need a certain something which you probably already own but which isn’t supplied with the setup.

Second Hand
This is a really clever effect where you appear to read a spectator’s mind and reveal their chosen card without them saying or doing anything. We’re pleased that the sources are credited in the explanation.

Another nice bonus that impressed us, was that the RSVP magic website contains a couple of other routines for the deck by Paul Hallas which are freely available. This seems to be a generous gesture.

We think this is a great little outfit. You would almost certainly only want to do one of these effects in any one set, but the time theme and the versatility of the cards should mean you are creating your own variations and routines in no time. I think the theme of time is so universal that they are bound to appeal to an audience and the cards themselves are appealing and interesting.

Get the Timeless Project from the Merchant of Magic for £24.99 (at the time of writing).
You can also just buy the standard Timelss Deck on its own for £7.99.
