Karnival Midnight – the Bicycle Deck’s latest incarnation…

We’ve just had the first word on the forthcoming deck from BBM (they have a box shot on their site). More details will follow, but for now here’s a sneaky preview…

Multi-Colour Bicycle Cards and “Gold Standard” Cards

Since one of our core aims is to keep you up to date with the UK availability of the latest Bike decks out there, I’m sorry that these had slipped past me.

Multi-coloured Bicycle Cards

The multi-coloured in the title referes to multi-coloured pips (Blue Spades, Yellow Diamonds, Green Clubs and Red Hearts)! There are also 2 four colour Jokers, a blue Joker and a blank face card with black back bonus card! They come with Black Standard Rider Backs with white borders.

The Gold Standard cards have been made to Richard Turner’s standards. I’m not sure if this is just another marketing gimmick or if they genuinely handle better. Let us know if you’ve tried them.

Both packs are available from Cards4Magic.

What’s new?

I’ve been inundated with adverts and deals recently, but this has been my first opportunity to post any of them. So here goes…

The boys at BBM have recently launched Gafftastic which promises to be “a collection of mind frying, easy card magic using special Gaff cards. All of the required gaff cards come free with the DVD. That’s 13 cool gaffs printed by the USPCC!” I’ve not seen it yet, but BBM rarely disappoint. (£17.99) Oh yes, and they’ve got some more Karnival Decks in stock.

Peter Duffie has released a couple of previously marketed effects (Pronto-Print & Vortex) as e-tricks. If you buy both you get a discount and a free trick! See PeterDuffie.com

Paul Gordon is offering some new tricks and books for 2009 including a re-vamp of the classic ‘Insurance Policy.’ I have been enjoying watching his ‘Live in Action’ DVD recently – well worth a look.

And regular readers will know I am a fan of Roberto Giobbi. He has released a follow up to Card College Light called… Card College Lighter. Definitely worth a look. The cheapest I’ve found it is at Studio9Magic for £21.99.

That will do for now. Happy Bicycle Card Bargain Hunting!

Bicycle Karnival Deck – first impressions

Some shots of the new Karnival Deck from BBM

Some shots of the new Karnival Deck from BBM

Well, the sample cards arrived this morning, and the montage above was all I could get done before the call of the bed. First thoughts…

When is a Bicycle Card not a Bicycle Card? There is not a Bicycle in sight on this deck! But of course they are printed by USPCC on classic Bicycle stock, so they handle well and familiarly.

The design is certainly striking. The wife’s verdict is ‘a bit morbid’ so maybe not a design for the ladies. I’m intrigued by the way the design drifts into ’specks’ and overruns the borders – somehow giving a slightly ‘aged’ feel to the cards.

As the pre-advertising has said, there are some reveals on the cards – see pic for zoom on 3 of Hearts reveal on one of the Jokers. There is also a barcode reveal (seven of spades) on the box. The double-backed gimmick will be useful for many effects, and the advertising card – well, its an advertising card.

If you’ve got to have every new deck, you’ll want one. If you like to perform slightly more unusual (darker?) magic, you’ll probably want one too. Maybe you just want a change. They’re here in time for Haloween (just) which is probably no co-incidence.

And did I mention they’re only available from www.bigblindmedia.com.

Blogging Eastbourne!

Friends of mine from the Sussex Magic Circle are providing a blog commentary on the IBM Convention at Eastbourne starting today.  So if you can’t make it but would like to know what’s going on at one of the larger magic conventions in the UK, pop along to Blogging Eastbourne for news, photos and comment.

More on the Karnival Deck – the new look Bicycle Deck

The Karnival Deck

The folks at BBM are trickling out info about this new deck. Completely new artwork (so is it still a Bicycle Deck?) on high grade USPCC stock. Includes a free double backer, and there are two card reveals built in to the card case and one of t he jokers respectively.

Launch date now looks like late October. But as usual, if you sign up for the BBM mailing list there are likely to be special offers and more information as it is available. We’ll let you know what we think when we get are hands on a deck.
