Dai Vernon print by Annabel De Vetten

OK – here’s something quite different for a change. A nice piece of art on your wall can really bring a bit of class to your magic den! Dai Vernon is one of the greatest modern exponents of close up and especially card magic. This is a limited edition print by Annabel De Vetten. If Dai Vernon isn’t your thing, she has done various other designs, including the legendary Cardini, Eugene Burger, and some prints from the Jill Deck. Unframed cost – £40.00

Extractor Gold Edition
Rob Bromley/Peter Nardi’s Extractor caused quite a stir when it came out a few years ago – a brilliant device to secretly retrieve a card from a boxed deck without the need for sleight of hand. Well the new edition has been improved, comes with extra routines and also shows you how to adapt it to a different (poker sized) deck design – so you don’t have to stick to the Bicycle deck if you don’t want to. £50.00

The Wicked World of Liam Montier - DVD This is a stonkingly good discount on a great DVD. Liam’s magic is usually very visual and within the reach of most performers and includes lots of card stuff. Recommended – and especially at about 75% off! Only £5.88

The James Files - 3 Volume Set - Book

I’m going to be honest. Not many of you are going to buy this. But those who do will have years’ worth of wonderful treasure to travel through. Stewart James was an absolute legend and this comprehensive set contains an vast wealth of material – largely unpublished – including variations on his ideas by other clever magical thinkers. Pure delight. But a serious investment! £99.99

Bicycle Propaganda Deck
We haven’t mentioned an actual deck of Bicycle cards on our Trick of the Month for a long time. I suppose technically it isn’t a trick! But lots are possible with this rather unusual Propaganda Deck which is produced on Tally Ho stock and has a rather striking black design. £4.99

WOW 2 We very rarely promote pre-orders on this site since we prefer to know things work before we push them, but we’re making a noble exception here. Masuda’s original WOW trick was an instant success – incredible visual magic. We are certain WOW 2 will be the same – and will sell out very quickly – hence the pre-order. Click through for the full details, but essentially a chosen and signed card will visibly rise through a face down deck and appear on the top. What an ending to an Ambitious Card routine. Pre-order now for £28.99

Cellini the Royal Touch

This is a legendary book from a legendary performer. If you can make a living from magic on the street then you know what you are talking about. Here are Cellini’s famous routines all explained in great detail and a wealth of tips and advice too. £59.99

Unusual Suspect - Matthew Wright
If you prefer to learn your magic on DVD then this one comes highly recommended, by no less than Jeff McBride! Here are 6 carefully structured routines – lessons in magic and very entertaining too. Mainly card magic with a little coin work too. £19.99

OCL One Card Link - By Ben Williams - DVD

This is a fantastic impossible effect. You tear two card circles from a chosen card and then magically link them together leaving an examinable ‘take home’ impossibility. Brilliant! Taught on DVD by Ben Williams. £19.99

I always like to mention a magic book because I continue to be a massive fan of the genre! Paul Curry is one of the most original magic thinkers ever – creator of the original and brilliant Out of this World trick. Here are 400 pages of classic Curry. £32.99

Trick of the Month – May 2010

Silent Running - by Ben Harris - INSTANT DOWNLOADThis one only came out yesterday so I have not had a chance to look at it yet. But it is a close cousin of Ben’s Crossroads effect – which I am a big fan of. So I have no hesitation in recommending this. Ben always produces well thought through magic and this sounds great. £26.99

Ascension props and DVDI have always liked the classic ‘rising card’ effect. Nick Langham has taken the effect and combined it with another classic principle to produce a knockout effect which is easy to do. All beautifully produced on Bicycle stock. £19.99

Wonder Clock

Regular readers will no of my soft-spot for mentalism. This is, obviously, a non-card item, but is a nice piece of mental magic with an attractive hand-crafted prop. Currently over 30% off at £14.99

Trick of the Month – March 2010

More recommendations from Bicycle-Cards.co.uk – this month a few ‘oldies’ but goodies!

Extreme Cuts with KeoneI have a confession to make. Though I love Bicycle Card Magic, I am not much into XCM (extreme card magic). However, I know many of you are, and this classic DVD has all the card flourishes you could want, and is currently HALF PRICE at only £11.49.

Bicycle Rainbow Deck and DVD
This factory produced Rainbow Deck in Bicycle cards comes with some special gaff cards and an instructional DVD for £21.99

In my continuing quest (crusade sounds too grand) to encourage people to read good magic books, I want to mention this gem by one of our home grown talents, Guy Hollingworth. This is a beautiful book in every way – well-written, well-illustrated, and with some amazing card magic within its pages. I’ve had the privilege of seeing Guy perform some of this stuff and it really is brilliant. £26.99

Magicians Ltd Cookbook Now this one ticks a lot of boxes. Firstly, it is full of excellent card magic from some of the world’s best card men. Secondly, the proceeds are going towards a good charity (follow link for details). Thirdly, it is actually on special at the moment so only £16.00.
Hover - By Angelo Carbone Angelo Carbone has been producing clever magic for years. Here’s a nice way to start your Bicycle Card set – by making the deck float above your table! (The gimmick will work with other packs too.) £14.99
OK, so this isn’t card magic, but I love close up magic of all kinds. The ‘Coin Unique’ is one of the most versatile and clever gimmicks in the repertoire, and this is an amazing achievement – a £2coin/50p version. Precision engineering. £45.00/td>

Trick of the Month – January 2010

This Trick of the Month is also Trick of the Year and Decade! Happy New Year from Bicycle-Cards.co.uk.

3D Advertising by Henry Evans This isn’t brand new, but I hadn’t seen it before. The perfect opener to a series of Bicycle Card magic tricks! Brilliant visual magic – see the demo. £27.99
Dear Mister Fantasy - By John Bannon Spending time with a John Bannon DVD recently has reminded me how much I enjoy his work. This is an extremely fine introduction to his clever, subtle magic, and is worth the price for the 4 Ace tricks alone. £24.99
When I’m talking to non-magicians, the trick they most often ask about is ‘the one where the chosen card ends up behind the car window.’ Here is a great little version of this effect from the ingenious David Forrest and now the DVD version is reduced to only £13.99

Trick of the Month – December 2009

The Zenneth Code DVD - By Zenneth Kok Zenneth Kok has something of a reputation when it comes to card magic, and this DVD teaches a series of powerful card routines and moves. Currently available at just over half price – a bargain at £11.50
