Trick of the Month was a very brief recommendation of a magic trick and/or a magic book and/or a magic dvd which used to be published on BicycleTricks.co.uk. We have decided to include the archive here on Bicycle-Cards.co.uk and will continue to publish new recommendations from September '09. You can have a look at some of our past recommendations below.

Trick of the Month – Sep 2009

Nexus - By Martin Adam - INSTANT DOWNLOAD Nexus is an instant download which contains 5 routines. Don’t be put off by the simple presentation of the document – there is some great mental magic here – with cards, poker chips and money. Something for everyone, as they say! £11.99
Bicycle Poker Size Playing Cards - Yellow Back Since Bicycle Cards are our bread and butter here, I thought I’d flag up these attractive yellow backed Bikes. They’ve been around for a while, but I think they do make an interesting variation. £4.99
Paul Harris - True Astonishments 9 DVD Set I’m obviously a big fan of magic, but as my wife will tell you I’m also a sucker for a nice box! This ‘magnum opus’ from Paul Harris contains a whopping 9 DVDs with the incredible and inventive magic of Paul (and some of his friends). Its all wrapped up in a beautiful wooden ‘puzzle box’ and contains some props and gimmicks to help with some of the tricks. Buy it. Spend the rest of your life learning from it. And enjoy True Astonishment. But hold your breath ‘cos its £239.99

Trick of the Month – Aug 2009

The sharper eyed of you may have noticed that there have been some extra posts imported to the site (ok – I admit it is unlikely!). We have imported all our mini-reviews/recommendations from our sister site (BicycleTricks.co.uk – which will no longer be operational after tomorrow). If you want to see the whole set, point your browser to the Trick of the Month Archive (or use the permanent link in the Magic Links list in the right hand column). By the way, ‘Trick’ of the Month is slightly misleading because we have got into the habit of highlighting three items, which could be a trick, book or dvd. Tomorrow we will publish the first of the new set on this site. And for the moment, this will have to make up for the missing August entry!

Trick of the Month – July 2009

Sometimes its Hard to be a Cardman - Andi Gladwin Apologies for a late post this month. We’ve just moved and Internet access continues to be a problem. Well known cardman Andi Gladwin has produced a nice little books which is currently half price at only £5.99
Art of Magic - By Wayne Houchin Here’s a nice variation on the magic DVD front. Wayne not only teaches some great tricks, he also interviews some of magic’s ‘greats’ and there are performance clips too. So lots to learn from this one. £24.99
Presto Pad (Close Up Style - Black) Looking for a different and versatile kind of close-up pad? This one’s knocked down to only £16.34 – so snap it up quick

Trick of the Month – June 2009

Attack Of the Bag - by Craig Petty I was privileged to see Craig Petty lecture recently. He is a clever guy and his routines with this coin are a knockout – and best of all, require very little (or no!) sleight of hand. Recommended. Includes two bags with the DVD. Use any currency. £14.96
Blank - By Craig Petty Although Craig is primarily a coin man, he also showed us some very clever card work. Here is a collection of it on DVD. All designed for high impact at minimum effort. £17.99
My Precious - By Haim Goldenberg - Trick Here’s an unnusual and appealing mental trick ideal for platform or close up work. The bare bones of the plot is locating each of 4 spectator’s rings, but it is an entertaining and clever routine, which fits in the pocket easily. 1/3 off at the moment, so only £20.70

Trick of the Month – May 2009

Holy Grail of Mentalism - INSTANT DOWNLOAD Any Card at Any Number (ACAAN) is a plot I am slightly obsessed with! So I was delighted to discover this new instant download (55page) with a very strong version of this effect and several variations and extras. Well worth a look at £19.99
WoW Wallet The classic Koran prediction is given a different twist by the talented Stephen Tucker. You deal through the cards and stop where the spectator says (no force). A duplicate of their chosen card is in the specially produced leather wallet. Currently on special at only £8.05
White Star - By Jim Critchlow This is as clever (and atmospheric) a version of a ‘living and dead’ test as you’ll ever find. All themed around the Titanic. Comes with nicely produced cards, but the principle can be extended to different themes and presentations. A great effect. £29.99.

Trick of the Month – April 2009

Twister Continuum - By Stephen Tucker As a fan of both Stephen Tucker and the BBM DVDs, when I saw this was reduced I had to mention it. Lots of clever tricks possible with a custom Bicycle gimmick. 2 extra routines included on the DVD also. Bargain at only £11.50
The Dragon There’s quite a bit of noise about this new magical accessory. Enables you to vanish small items and simultaneously produce a loud bang! Only £26.99
Foresight - By Devin Knight If you read this site regularly you will know I love strong mental magic and especially clean ‘think of a card’ or ACAAN effects. It looks like Devin Knight has come up with a clever and funny variation on this theme. £22.99.

Trick of the Month – Mar 2009

Frozen in Time by Masuda A friend performed this at the club the other day and it was amazing. In essence a photograph which includes a watch proves to show the exact time that the spectator selects. Only one photograph, in view all the time. Very clever working and extremely easy to do – so you can concentrate on the presentation. My kind of trick. £64.99
Limited Edition This is another ‘old’ trick which deserves to be rediscovered. A spectator’s merely thought of card totally vanishes from your hands. It was watching Eugene Burger perform a variation on this that convinced me of its value. An easy and impressive version of the Princess Card Trick. Only £12.97
WRATH - By Daniel Madison - INSTANT DOWNLOAD This is a new one and is available as an instant download. Very visual. Burn the whole deck and restore just the spectator’s card. Watch the demo for a great effect. £9.99.

Trick of the Month – Feb 2009

Cash Card - Card Thru £5 In a ‘credit crunch’ tricks with cash ought to appeal! And this is a very nice looking penetration of a bank note with a playing card. £12.99
Yokai - by Phill Smith I have recently finished reading Phill Smith’s first book – Mitox – The Falsely Spoken Word – and thoroughly enjoyed it. His approach is to the point, subtle, and suitable for use in the real world. So whilst I haven’t yet read Yokai, it is sure to be worth a look if you enjoy good mentalism. £27.50
Cups and Balls Set (With Chop Cup) (High Quality) I was recently re-learning my chop cup and balls routine and the combination set really does add an extra element to the routine – especially if your sleight of hand is not so hot. Here’s a nice set for £27.95.

Trick of the Month – Jan 2009

Arm Band Mystery By Hiro Sakai This is an unusual trick which I have not seen before, where a metal arm band penetrates a chosen card. Very visual. £18.95
Exploring Magical Presentations by Eugene Burger - DVD I have recently been reading some classic Eugene Burger books and have been reminded again of his great thinking about magic and in particular how to perform magic that moves people. This DVD is a masterclass in presentation and will help you think more creatively about your magic. £21.95
Flipper 10p (Pro-Quality) - Standard Version The ‘Flipper’ coin was one of the first gimmicked coins I owned and is incredibly versatile. (Check out – Craig Petty’s excellent Flipped Out DVD if you want more ideas with it). Here is a good quality version for £22.95.

Trick of the Month – Dec 2008

Art of Astonishment DVD - Paul Harris

As you may know I am a big fan of Paul Harris’ Art of Astonishment books, and this DVD has some of the choice effects from the books on it. Cards, notes, even fizzy drinks. All treated to the Paul Harris touch. Ideal Magic Christmas present? £17.99
Real World Magic - By Mark Mason - 2 DVD Set I wouldn’t normally recommend two DVDs in the same month, but Mark Mason’s set is worth a mention. Mark is a great performer and his magic is very entertaining. You will love watching these 2 DVDs and will learn some wonderful magic as performed in the real world. £24.99 (and if you already have this set, have you seen his new set – Decade)
Double Back And to finish with, a wonderful close-up miracle from Jon Allen. A really visual transposition of two pairs of cards – and best of all it is easy to do. Highly recommended. Only £12.99.
