MagicTricks.co.uk have just started releasing some powerful magic from one of the UK’s unsung magical heroes – Roger Curzon. This is his approach to the Signed Card in Envelope plot. There’s a sleight of hand and a sleight-free version and all the necessary gimmicks are included. There are also some extra routines on the DVD. A great hit at Blackpool this year, you get some great magic here for £20. (If you want to explore more of Roger’s magic, you will enjoy his first DVD Blood on the Tricks for only £19.99.)

We enjoyed Ben Harris’ clever Crossroads effect – and not just because we’re slightly obsessed with the thought of card in impossible location effect, and USPCC have recently produced this great Crossroads Double Faced Set of cards to make this effect even more slick. The set comes with detailed extra instructions with further ideas (though you will need the original Crossroads effect to fully understand this). £11.50 (or you can get the ‘Peek‘ edition for £7.99)

Here’s one of the most interesting twists on a card trick that we’ve seen in a while. To an intriguing story about Houdini, pictures of handcuffs open and Houdini disappears in The Vanishing. Another great original idea from Jon Allen. Only £15.50

It is rare to find a card trick that works well in a larger ‘platform’ context, but Fourseen is just such an effect. It is by Wayne Dobson which means it will also be entertaining and easy to do and it now comes with a DVD to help you learn it. What’s not to like? £15.00

PSI Poker is a new and intriguing effect from the creative brain of Ben Harris. A self-working, and ever so fair looking poker prediction effect. A nicely produced booklet explains it all for only £12.50

I’ve been playing this for a little while and hope do you a proper review of this when things become slightly less busy here. But Phantom of the Wallet is a great no palm signed card to wallet with an entertaining plot. Nicely made props and well written instructions – just what you’d expect from a Breeze/Duffie collaboration. Only £23.50

Although this site is primarily about card magic, the flavour of this DVD is mentalism. Before you get too worried, several of the items do involve cards, and it just so happens to contain the Penn & Teller fooling routine with envelopes and bank notes. John is a superb performer and Further Education comes highly recommended. £29.99

Move Over and Go is a new effect to me – it is a kind of matrix routine with playing cards with an extra surprise at the end of the routine. Pretty easy to do – and a bargain at only £10.50

If you have been in magic for more than a little while you will no doubt have come across the legendary Eugene Burger. However, it is only this last week that I have been reading a book by Robert Neale – and loving it! He is a great thinker on magic and has come up with some wonderful presentations. This book is all about the theory and presentation of magic – and as such is suitable for magicians who are more serious about their art. (if you would like to investigate some of Neale’s presentations, try – This is not a book) Only £29.99
A new month, a new year, a new decade! Welcome to 2011. Sorry this post is later than normal – but we wanted to share the DB quote yesterday! Here are some more recommendations from Bicycle-Cards.co.uk
Regular readers will know that we are a great fan of Roberto Giobbi’s excellent Card College books and the ‘Lighter’ volumes. Well now, for those of you who prefer to learn via DVDs, he has started producing Card College DVDs. The first two volumes are out now for £95.95 for a 4 DVD set. (and don’t forget you can still get 15% off until Jan 4th!)

FlightCase is a nice little signed card to card case effect by the ingenious Peter Eggink. And what’s even better is that it is currently reduced to only £12.99

And if you can’t wait another minute before trying your new trick out, why not download Cameron Francis’ excellent little trick Duped. Lots of magic in a short space of time – in the hands, instant reset, no special cards – sounds like my kind of worker. Only £6.99

With Christmas just round the corner we thought we would slightly branch out of our usual kind of recommendations. I first got started in magic when I was bought a magic set when only 7 or 8 years old. This Mindfreak Magic Kit would be a great present for a young magician – or someone just starting out in magic. It looks to be significantly better quality than the plastic rubbish that you pick up in the supermarket – so could be a great way to start someone off. All sorts of card magic, close-up magic and street magic. My only question is about how well known Criss Angel is in this country. I have seen it elsewhere for £69.99 but at MagicTricks.co.uk it is only £49.99
(For lower price alternatives you might consider looking here).

If you’re looking for more in the way of stocking fillers, these Bicycle Transducers (LAVA Edition) would be a really unusual deck of cards for anyone interested in card magic. This limited edition pack is designed by the k3 studio in Japan. £6.95

And if you’re the sort that would rather curl up with a book (and I’m one of them) – this would make a WONDERFUL and most unusual Christmas gift. It’s a beautifully produced book of ‘daily readings’ from Roberto Giobbi – 365 readings covering all aspects of our wonderful art – from the technical mechanics, to business strategy, and more general thoughts and tips. A goldmine from the author of the wonderful Card College series of books. Secret Agenda will keep you stimulated all the year round. £35.95

Here’s a really neat trick for lovers of Bicycle Cards. The performer is wearing a tee-shirt with a number of face down Bicycle Cards on its front. At any moment you want, one of the cards turns face up – providing a really visual climax to your routine. Neat idea. £49.99

Sticking with the visual magic theme, Mash Pack is a new item from Garrett Thomas. A solid Bicycle Card case visually morphs into a full deck of 52 cards. And there’s no flap! £26.99

Here’s another re-invention of the classic Bicycle Deck – the Centurion Deck from Theory 11. Another striking addition to the collection. And only £4.99

We recently had the privilege of seeing James Brown lecture at our local Magic Club. The man is a genius and you should buy everything he sells! Seriously, here is someone who thinks deeply about his magic with fantastic results. Even if you hate the tricks (which you wont) you will learn loads from this DVD. Unfortunately Vol 1 is out of stock at the moment. Vol 2 is £26.95

I finally got my hands on one of the new USPCC 809 Mandolin decks and first impressions are very good. I will do a more in depth review as time permits, but these handle well and I prefer the back design to the original. £2.50 a deck at Merchant of Magic or £2.60 at MA Pro.
I remember the first time I saw Wayne dem this at a convention. Like most of Wayne’s material it is easy to do and entertaining. The trick looks to have gone wrong, but there is a comedy resolution. £15.00

This is a stonkingly good discount on a great DVD. Liam’s magic is usually very visual and within the reach of most performers and includes lots of card stuff. Recommended – and especially at about 75% off! Only £5.88

I’m going to be honest. Not many of you are going to buy this. But those who do will have years’ worth of wonderful treasure to travel through. Stewart James was an absolute legend and this comprehensive set contains an vast wealth of material – largely unpublished – including variations on his ideas by other clever magical thinkers. Pure delight. But a serious investment! £99.99

We haven’t mentioned an actual deck of Bicycle cards on our Trick of the Month for a long time. I suppose technically it isn’t a trick! But lots are possible with this rather unusual Propaganda Deck which is produced on Tally Ho stock and has a rather striking black design. £4.99

We very rarely promote pre-orders on this site since we prefer to know things work before we push them, but we’re making a noble exception here. Masuda’s original WOW trick was an instant success – incredible visual magic. We are certain WOW 2 will be the same – and will sell out very quickly – hence the pre-order. Click through for the full details, but essentially a chosen and signed card will visibly rise through a face down deck and appear on the top. What an ending to an Ambitious Card routine. Pre-order now for £28.99

This is a legendary book from a legendary performer. If you can make a living from magic on the street then you know what you are talking about. Here are Cellini’s famous routines all explained in great detail and a wealth of tips and advice too. £59.99

If you prefer to learn your magic on DVD then this one comes highly recommended, by no less than Jeff McBride! Here are 6 carefully structured routines – lessons in magic and very entertaining too. Mainly card magic with a little coin work too. £19.99
