Trick of the Month – April 2010

More recommendations from Bicycle-Cards.co.uk

Silent Running - by Ben Harris - INSTANT DOWNLOADThis one only came out yesterday so I have not had a chance to look at it yet. But it is a close cousin of Ben’s Crossroads effect – which I am a big fan of. So I have no hesitation in recommending this. Ben always produces well thought through magic and this sounds great. £26.99

Ascension props and DVDI have always liked the classic ‘rising card’ effect. Nick Langham has taken the effect and combined it with another classic principle to produce a knockout effect which is easy to do. All beautifully produced on Bicycle stock. £19.99

Wonder Clock

Regular readers will no of my soft-spot for mentalism. This is, obviously, a non-card item, but is a nice piece of mental magic with an attractive hand-crafted prop. Currently over 30% off at £14.99

Trick of the Month – October 2009

Crossroads - By Ben Harris - INSTANT DOWNLOAD This is my favourite kind of card effect – with an impossible location of a thought of card. And it can also be presented in the ACAAN format which is a double bonus for me. Available as an instant download or in print, both at £22.50
6 HALLUCINATIONS by ED MARLO - INSTANT DOWNLOAD Here’s another instant download with the serious cardworker in mind. The late, great Ed Marlo provides one gimmicked, and five (yes FIVE!) non-gimmicked handlings for this classic Hallucination plot. Only £6.99
Act Two By Barrie Richardson Regular readers will know I am a big fan of books (one day I may post a listing of my little library up here somewhere) and also of mental magic. I recently purchased this second excellent volume from Barrie Richardson. If you love subtle and entertaining mental magic, look no further. £34.99 (the first volume – Theatre of the Mind is also available for £29.99)

Trick of the Month – June 2008

Brain Drain - DVD + Deck I’ve been playing with this recently. It is a kind of twist on the ‘Brainwave’ or ‘Invisible Deck’ concept but (to my mind) is stronger because the spectator can remove the card themselves without any worries. Very easy to do and supplied with the special deck. A worthy bonus on the accompanying DVD is performance and explanation of Martin Sanderson’s Ambitious Card routine (from the DVD Corporate Close Up which is in itself an excellent volume). Recommended. £24.99
Unripped It amazes me that there are so many versions of the torn and restored card available, but this one (with DVD) gets a special mention this month since it is half price at only £10.58.
Enlightenment - By Ben Harris Everyone seems to be talking about this one at the moment, though I’ve not tried it myself. It is Ben Harris’ new take on the floating card which certainly looks incredibly visual and powerful. £49.99.
